10/08/2006 - The Skeleton in the Closet
Matthew 6:9-13
That Jesus had to teach his disciples to pray means that prayer is by no means an obvious or natural activity. Having told them to go into a closet to pray, that they could shut out everything and everybody, he now provides a model for their prayer life.
A good start is crucial if a good ending is to be had. Taking the wrong the wrong road will never lead you to the desired destination. Despite popular thought, all roads do not lead to Rome. Thus, once we have gone to our closet to pray, how are we to then pray?
Having gone to your closet to pray, reflecting upon the glory and majesty of the One who knows our every need before you ask Him, the model prayer indicates that we are now postured to offer our petitions to the Father.
